Behind the Build: Cox Engineering’s Cleanroom Project

Cox Engineering came to OMNI Building Services with a clear objective: build a modular cleanroom inside their working facility. The project came with real constraints. The space was tight, the ceiling structure posed limitations, and the client needed the job completed within a short timeline, all while operations continued around the build.

From the beginning, it was clear that execution would depend on tight coordination and strong communication. Our team worked closely with Cox Engineering to understand how the cleanroom needed to function, how the layout would integrate with their existing footprint, and how to move efficiently without creating unnecessary disruptions.

Planning and Execution

Once the scope was confirmed, we moved into planning with a clear goal: build a cleanroom that met performance standards without interfering with the existing structural layout. That meant accounting for ceiling height, mechanicals, and access routes early in the process so the installation wouldn’t hit delays later.

Our field team worked with modular system components that could be adjusted on site, which helped us move quickly once the framing began. Every detail from ceiling grid installation to door placement had to align with the active environment around us. There was no extra space, so staging and delivery had to be tightly coordinated.

Cox remained involved throughout the process, which helped us make decisions fast and keep progress steady. Regular walkthroughs, clear feedback, and an aligned schedule made it possible to keep the build on track without surprises.

Challenges on Site

Space was the primary constraint. The cleanroom had to be built within an existing facility that offered little flexibility. Overhead, structural beams and angled supports limited ceiling height, which required adjustments to the layout during the build.

The crew also worked within a live environment, with Cox Engineering operations continuing nearby. That meant strict attention to cleanliness, safety, and minimizing disruptions.

Some of the key challenges included:

  • Structural obstructions that impacted ceiling clearance
  • A compact footprint that limited movement around the site
  • Ongoing operations requiring tight control over noise and dust

Daily check-ins with the client helped keep everything moving.

Decisions were made quickly, adjustments were handled on site, and the team stayed focused on delivering without compromising safety or quality.

Project Outcome

The cleanroom was completed on schedule and within budget. It fit the space as planned, met all client requirements, and integrated cleanly with the existing facility layout. No major rework was needed, and the client was able to move forward without any disruption to their operations.

This project is a strong example of what can be accomplished with clear communication and consistent follow-through. From planning to installation, the process stayed collaborative and focused, which made it possible to hit every project milestone without compromise.

We appreciate the opportunity to work with Cox Engineering and look forward to supporting future upgrades as their facility needs grow.
